Turning Technical Writing into Storytelling at Dell Technologies

Product design, engineering, and sales teams came to me to tell their stories through video. Whether a narrative short film about who our technology serves and how, animation of a purchase order from submission to fulfillment, or motion graphics and music to highlight performance metrics, I made technical information engaging.

I helped my colleagues turn internal updates into videos.

The following clips were slightly modified for presentation.

He said he wanted the Top Gun music to play while he he showed off his team’s numbers.

With that in mind, I took to the sky for the visuals.

Information is organized so that each scene can serve as an infographic.

The energizing music and synchronized animations make this much more powerful than just another PowerPoint presentation.

Even very text heavy information is more engaging with a design system, animation, and some good music.

When colleagues wanted to share their ideas and updates as videos, they would send me an audio recording, some practical info, and I would get to work.

Some preferred a more formal/text-based approach while others wanted visuals to help tell their story.

Going beyond B-roll, customized motion graphics illustrate what’s being discussed.

In addition to audio recordings, I would also receive screen recordings of demonstrations to incorporate into videos.
